Exploring
Lana'i
Here, at last, is an all-terrain paradise, a place of unhurried exploration. Here, at last, is a place where aloha is not just a word, but a way of life. Here is Lāna‘i. Welcome to Hawai‘i’s most enticing island.
Once an ancient Hawaiian village, Hulopo‘e Bay in South Läna‘i has been rated the best beach in the country and is a good spot for swimming, body boarding, snorkeling and surfing. It is also part of a marine life conservation area and a preferred habitat for Hawaiian spinner dolphins. Often the marine mammals that venture into the bay are the youngsters, accompanied by their dolphin “nannies.” Visitors can also picnic or camp at Hulopo‘e and explore the fascinating tide pools ringing the bay.
The island’s natural and cultural attractions are spread out over 141 square miles, down roads more bumpy than paved, and through rain forests, pineapple lands and windswept plains. Länai’s 89,600 acres of countryside invite sporting clays, hiking, mountain biking and sightseeing. From its highest point you can see up to five neighboring islands. Sailing, swimming, snorkeling, scuba diving and championship golf in mountain and oceanfront settings are the adventures that await you on Läna‘i. Four-wheel-drive vehicles are the norm. In Läna‘i’s rhythm and scale, it may take an hour to go 12 miles, but the landscape is part of the journey.
The less adventurous may choose to roam charming Läna‘i City (the island’s only town
—one that still sleeps in on Sundays). For more information, call 800-947-4774 or go to Visit www.visitlanai.net
